Back in February, we saw that Sandals had all of their resorts 50-65% off. We decided to book a vacation because I have wanted to go to Sandals ever since I first heard about it. It is an all-inclusive resort, so you pay one price up front and all of your food, drinks and water sports are included. Our trip to Jamaica was AMAZING!!I think our favorite thing about the entire trip was that we got to go Scuba Diving for the first time and we absolutely loved it! We took a resort certification course and then we got to go on a one tank dive each day down to 40 feet. They showed us sting rays, a lion fish, eels and numerous other fish. We were so glad that we tried it.
Our second favorite part of the trip was all of the excellent food and activities. During the day they had beach volleyball tournaments, sailing lessons, snorkeling, kayak rides and other games on the beach. They taught Eric how to sail a sailboat and we were able to take it out a couple times on our own. The resort we spent most of our time at in Montego Bay had a great area to swim in, so we spent a lot of time in the ocean! They had a huge variety of restaurants too. There were dress-up ones and casual ones. They covered quite a few food categories too: Italian, Japanese, Thai, Tex-Mex, Buffets, and International.
Our third favorite part was the cool night entertainment shows. We saw the Children of the Drums (Jamaican Dancers), a man who breathed fire and did crazy things with it, and a Reggae singer, Kevin James. We learned some Reggae dance moves and the Jamaican macarena (I'm not sure how well we remember them though.) Eric even had to go on stage and dance for the audience! They called him up there with 2 other guys and told them that they had 15 seconds to show that they could "drop it like it's hot." Eric totally won and I have to say, I have never seen him pull out dance moves like that! :)
I was amazed at the optimism the Jamaicans have about life. When we drove by some of their homes, it didn't seem that they had much at all. They were always so happy though, always smiling. When it was raining, they would call people outside and say "Come play! It's liquid sunshine!" They never complained either. It was definitely an eye-opener. Americans have so much, but never seem to be happy with life. Real proof that happiness can be achieved without having things...
And yes, the water really is as blue as people say...our camera just didn't capture the blueness that well.

Looks like tons of fun! I bet it was so beautiful there. Scuba diving scares me for some reason... you guys must be brave! We want to go to a sandals resort someday too.
