Whistler Trip

Eric and I decided to go on a little ski trip for a weekend and ended up at Whistler the week before the olympics started. We actually really loved the cute little town. Basically, Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains are right next to each other and Whistler is a cute European town right at the base where the two mountains meet. The town in itself was a lot of fun and I think we'll definitely go for another ski trip another year, but this year it was extra exciting because they were all decorated for the Olympics. Our hotel was right across the street from the main town plaza and this is what we saw when we turned onto the street to find our hotel. This picture hardly portrays how cute it was, but we were really excited when we saw it! :)

Here is a picture of the Whistler Inukshuk man, which is part of the Olympic logo. It represents peace and unity. It's kind of hard to see in this picture, but they had cool lights that flashed to light it up all day long.
Here is a picture of part of the town. We loved that the ski lifts left right from the town. We were able to walk to the lift from our hotel. That totally beats driving 40 mins to an hour to get to the lifts in Utah! :)Since we went to Whistler to ski, that was the very first thing we did on our first day there. I was so excited to get on the mountain! We had been watching the weather for the week prior to when we went up there and Whistler hadn't been getting any snow. We lucked out though! It didn't snow the entire time we drove up there Thursday night, which was good for driving conditions. The next morning though, when we woke up to go skiing, they had gotten about 4-8 inches. It was perfect! By the end of the day it started to get a little icy, but we still had a lot of fun and enjoyed the fresh powder while it lasted!

We loved the view of the other mountains too!
Friday night, after we finished skiing, we got to hang out with the Canadians to welcome the Olympic Torch to Whistler. We actually got to hold a torch!
They had stages set up all over through the town for the different medal ceremonies, but everyone gathered around the main stage to see performers and then the Olympic Torch hand-off. It ended with the lighting of the main torch cauldron. It was a lot of fun being around all of the excitement, but we had to silently cheer for the US when they started cheering for Canada. :) Go Team USA!!Saturday, we walked through Whistler and found some fun little hikes. We were amazed that this little creek wasn't frozen.
We also ended up at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre. It is a museum about the two local tribes that live in the area.
At the end of the tour, we got to make rope out of cedar. Apparently when you get the inner layer of cedar bark wet, it becomes pliable and if you kid of twist and braid it, you can make rope. This is what they used to build their homes, so it must be pretty strong.
Saturday night we went to a club. I had never been to one, but thought it would be fun to try out. Eric and I absolutely loved it! It was one of our favorite parts of the trip! I wish we had pictures, but we never pulled out the camera. If anyone knows of any good dance clubs in the Seattle/Bellevue/Kirkland area, please let us know! We'd love to go with you!

We drove home on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed gorgeous views of the ocean. This was the best picture we could get from the car, but it was so pretty to see the mountains and the ocean at the same time. My only complaint was that I wish there was more snow. It would have made the mountains even prettier. I guess we'll take what we can get though! :)
