Dear Mia,
You are such a brave little girl! You broke your leg today and I was so proud of what a trooper you were! I was cleaning off your high chair and you fell and started crying. I guess you tripped over your Quick as a Cricket book, one of your favorites. Usually you fall and get right back up without even noticing, so I knew something was wrong. I gave you a hug and put you back down and you just fell to the ground again. I could tell something was wrong, but since I've never broken anything, I didn't know what to expect. I guess I thought that if it was really broken, you'd keep screaming and not stop. You asked for Baby Signing Time and I put it on for you. You would cry for a minute, then stop while trying to copy the signs, then cry again for a minute. I tried to get you to go get your monkey and you even tried to get off the couch and just fell again.
We went to see the Dr. shortly after that and I carried both you and Ari in all by myself. I have to say, I was pretty proud of being able to manage that one! The Dr. looked at your leg and even had you try to go get a sticker, but you only made it about 4 steps before you couldn't walk anymore. We had to go across the street to get x-rays and you got to ride in a wheelchair. You loved the ride, but you absolutely hated the x-rays. I wasn't able to stay with you because I had Ari in the baby carrier and you just screamed and screamed. It was sad. We got through it though! The x-rays showed that you had what they call a spiral fracture, aka toddler fracture in your left leg. It's common for toddlers to twist their leg as they fall and it results in that kind of fracture. You got a purple cast and left with big smiles because you had a sticker with Mater, the tow truck on it (You love the movie Cars). We are almost through day two of the cast and you have already asked to take your foot out or said all done about 4 times. Sorry kiddo! You have to keep that one on for a month! I'm going to have to be creative with finding things you can do while sitting down. We pulled out the sidewalk chalk yesterday and you liked sitting on the ground and drawing with that!
We love you Mia! Thanks for smiling through a not so happy event!
XOXO,
Mommy
