2014 Catch-up

So far, 2014 has been a great year!  We got two snow storms in Seattle.  The snow didn't stay long for either one though.  It snowed all night, but melted by lunchtime.  After the first one, I woke Mia up early because I was so excited to build a snowman with her and we ended with snow angels and hot chocolate. When she woke up and saw the snow out the window after the second storm, which was a month later, she remembered everything and woke me up to do everything we had done the time before.  It's amazing how much she remembers!  Ari got to play in the snow for the first time too!  Once she realized that it was cold, she didn't like it too much.

As you can see, the girls have been up to lots and lots of fun!

We took the girls to the Aquarium in February. It was a huge hit!  It was octopus week and we got to watch them feed the octopus that lives at that aquarium.  Octopi are super interesting.  Each arm has 200 suckers and that's how they get their food.  At the center of an octopus there is a jaw bone that they call a beak.  This is the biggest bone in the octopus and it determines what size hole the octopus can go through.  Most octopi can actually get their whole body through a pvc pipe.  Their beak just has to be small enough to fit through the hole.  Ari loved watching the fish through the glass and Mia got to do an Octopus dance!  Afterwards, we walked around Seattle and finally got mac and cheese at Beecher's and took Eric to a gingerbeer (non-alcoholic, of course) place near Pike's Place.

In February, Eric and I planned a ski trip to Utah.  The girls got to play with their cousins while Grandma LuLu and Auntie Maria watched them for us.  It was super sunny weather, which wasn't the best for skiing, but allowed for fun times at the park!  I think the main highlight of the trip was the slide/bouncy house place the kids got to go to.  Mia was so excited once she walked inside, she just kept jumping up and down.  It took her a few minutes to actually calm down enough to climb up the stairs to go down the big slide.  Ari loved crawling around too!

March was an exciting month too!  Ari turned 1!  I can't believe she has already been with us for an entire year!  She took her first step on her birthday and is just now (end of April) getting brave enough to walk across the room.  For a while, she would only take one or two steps and sit down, even though she had enough balance and coordination to squat and sit and stand back up.  She has gotten much braver now though!  As you can see, Ari loved her birthday cupcake!  She loved getting all messy with the frosting, but of course she didn't like the clean-up part.

So far, 2014 is turning out to be a great year!  I sure hope the fun continues!  :)
