Mia- 3 Years

Dear Mia,

Every time your Birthday comes around, I'm just so amazed at how fast the last year went by.  You have grown up a ton over the past year too!  It has been fun watching you develop relationships with the people around you.  You love to give hugs.  Every time you see your friends or your teacher at your toddler group or your teachers in nursery, you run up to give them a hug.  You have also gotten a lot closer with Lexi.  She is rather fond of you too!  It's fun listening to you laugh when she runs around and plays with you.  You have also started bonding more with Ari, which is soo fun to watch.  I think you had a tough time because she was taking a lot of attention away from you.  Now though, you see that she can play and do fun things, so you have started cheering her on when she learns to walk or do things with you.  You have been really good at sharing lately and trying to play with her. The two of you love to chase each other by crawling in circles around the couch or down the hall.  You are always super proud of her when she uses a toy or utensil for the first time and try to make sure to explain what she is supposed to do with it.  She used crayons for the first time the other day and you made sure that she wrote on the paper and not the floor and that she didn't eat it.  The other night we tried having you guys sleep in the same room together and it was just laughs and giggles the entire time.  We eventually had to pull Ari out because we didn't think either of you were going to get any sleep.  Those laughs were the biggest ones we had heard yet though!  You are learning everyday and I know you are going to be a great sister to Ari!

Your independence has been hard for me.  You want to do absolutely everything yourself.  Sometimes it's great, but other times, I have to try really hard to be patient with you.  Sorry for the frustration!  I'm super proud of you and realize that I need to accept that it's okay for you to try something on your own, even if it means we're going to be late or that it might make a mess.  I guess I have to let you grow up someday!

Daddy and I are amazed at the things you say.  You talk so well for a three year old!  You also enunciate everything perfectly, even though we don't.  The things you remember and absorb are pretty amazing too. At the moment, you are obsessed with Frozen.  We have the soundtrack in the car and you ask to listen to it everywhere we go.  You have the movie memorized as well, and will tell me what happens in the movie at that specific point in the song or what happens right after the song ends.  You can remember things from so long ago too.  Sometimes, just out of the blue, you'll start talking about something you did with Grandpa Paul 6 months ago when were in Florida.  It just doesn't seem possible for a three year old to remember things so well, but it's true!

Music is one of your favorite things.  You have memorized so many songs.  You even sing songs that Mommy and Daddy like.  "I'm So Glad You Came" is one of the ones you sing super well.  It came out right around when you were born and we have always called it "your song."  You also like "Counting Stars."  You sing both of those all the time.  You even know all of the songs on Frozen.  I can't even sing them as well as you can!  Hopefully your love for music will continue because we love hearing you sing.  You'll have to sing to Ari and teach her all of the songs you know.  You will also have to teach Ari how to dance!  You love it when we pull out the scarves and have dance parties together!

You are our little peacemaker.  Daddy and I usually are pretty good about not arguing in front of you, but every once in while, we'll start to have a disagreement when you're still in the room.  You'll come up to one of us and ask us to talk quieter.  If only we could channel those peacemaking skills towards being more patient with Ari!

Whenever someone asks what your name is, you tell them it's "Mia Bear."  When they ask what your sister's name is, you say, "Ari Baby."  Then later if they call you Mia, you correct them that it is "Mia Bear."  You are very matter of fact about it too.

We are still working on potty training.  You'll get it soon.  You've been doing a lot better with it and actually do go on your own.  You just don't seem to be ready to go the full 100%, so we still have you in diapers. You always clap for yourself when you do go though!  It's really cute!  Maybe once the move is all over, I can put more effort into it too.

Here are some funny Mia-isms:

Mia was standing in the kitchen staring at her own painting, which was hanging on the wall and said, "Wow!  That's amazing!"

We were driving in the car past some fields and Mia saw some kids playing football and said, "Mommy, they are playing Faceball!"

Mia calls Sour Cream, Ice Cream.

Mommy and Daddy: What song do you want to sing?
Mia: The dessert song.
Mommy and Daddy: What's the dessert song?
Mia sings: Happy Birthday to you...

Mia lets out a huge belch.  Then pauses and says, "That was incredible."

Mia calls us Daddio and Mommio occasionally.  The other night she was listing who she loves and said, Daddio...Mommio...Ario...

Daddy helped Mia with a puzzle and with each piece he placed, she'd say "Good job Daddy!  You're a good helper!"

We're walking through Walgreens and we quickly pass the candy aisle.  Mia keeps pointing and saying, "Those are potty treats!  Those are for the potty!" (A few weeks prior, I had taken her to Target to pick out her potty treats.)

Every morning, before Eric walks out the door, he signs "Love".  Mia had struggled to sign it back without help and was soo excited the day she was finally able to do it by herself.

Whenever someone comes over and she randomly starts thinking about Frozen, she immediately starts talking about the trailer, when the snowman and moose fight over the carrot nose.  She always explains that she was scared, but that she's not scared anymore because "he gave the carrot back to him.  When I see him, I'll say he's a good moosey moose."

We brought the tablet with some movies on it for Mia to watch on the long car ride to Utah.  Right before naptime, we stopped to fill up the gas tank and when she asked for "Mommy's book (tablet)", Eric responded with, "Let's wait until we're on the road to use Mommy's book."  Mia fell asleep for 2 hours and a while later when were still driving asked, "Where's the road, so I can use Mommy's book?"

The other day Mia said the prayer all by herself.  She included saying, "We're thankful for our cutie girls," which is what I tend to say a lot.  She also stopped in the middle to point out that Ari was folding her arms and kept saying, "Good job Ari!" and then continued praying.

We were driving to pick up Eric at work and Mia asked, "What's that?"  When I asked what color it was, since I was driving and couldn't see what she pointed to, she said black.  The only thing I could think of was the mountains she could see out her window, so I explained them to her.  She then said, "I want to hug the mountain because it loves me so much!"

Mia, you certainly add a lot of excitement and love to our life!  We love you so much and can't imagine what our family would be like without you!  I can't wait to see what the next year brings!

Love,
Mommy
