Callie O'Malley

Dear Callie,

You are so loved!  Your Mommy and Daddy adore you and so do your big sisters!  We tell everyone that you are the perfect baby because you are so happy!  You still fuss and cry, like every baby does, but overall, you are content, patient, smiley and an awesome sleeper!  What more could we ask for?!

I think your official nickname is Callie O'Malley.  The rhyme just made it stick.  We tried Schmiggity Boo and Bump a Bump, but those didn't stick, so Callie O'Malley it is!  Callie is the perfect name for you.  We considered quite a few others for you, but you just look like a Callie, so I think we picked the right one.  Some of the others were: Tori, Tallly, and Cali (different spelling).

You are now 5 months old and still look just as cute as ever.  You have lost most of your hair spike though.  It still sticks up a little in the back, but nothing like it used to.  You always have a bow in your hair, and get complimented on how cute you are.  In the past few weeks, you've been getting more social.  When people smile at you, you smile back, but do this shy head turn and try to hide your face against me while watching them.  You also have started laughing.  We have to work to get it out of you, but it's there!  Usually, we can kind of tickle you under your chin and you'll laugh.  Sometimes you'll think things are funny and look like you're trying to laugh, but all you get out is a great big smile!

As far as baby sisters go, you are the luckiest!  Your big sisters love you sooo much and want to do anything they can to please you.  We pulled out the pink exersaucer tonight and the girls were so excited to help me clean it for you.  I put you in it and their excitement to show you all of the toys on it overwhelmed you and I had to come rescue you.  Anytime I put you on the floor to play, they always rush over to show you any toy they can find to try to get you to smile or laugh at them.  You love watching them too.  Anytime you make eye contact with one of them, you give the biggest smiles!  It's super sweet.  No wonder they love you so much!

We have witnessed you discovering your feet, hands, ears and tongue.  It was fun watching you grab your ear over and over or stick your tongue out immediately or stare at your hands and your feet.  Each of them happened at a separate time and it didn't seem to last very long.  No wonder we missed it when your sisters discovered all those things.  It was sure fun watching you though!

Talking and singing seem to be favorite pastimes of yours too.  The other night we couldn't get you to go to sleep, so we turned out the lights and laid you on our bed, in between us.  You started talking up a storm and then proceeded to sing.  It was quite entertaining.  We tried not to laugh, but you were so cute, we couldn't help it.  You had it backwards, Callie!  We're supposed to sing you to sleep, not the other way around!

You are very observant.  You love looking around the room at everything and everyone.  When you see someone look over at you, you go crazy with excitement and give a great big smile and kick your feet.  We love it!

We started feeding you solids at 4 months.  From day 1, you absolutely loved it!  I felt like we should wait until 6 months, but once I saw how well and excited you were for it, I knew you were ready.  So far, you have tried applesauce, carrots, rice and oatmeal and have loved all of it.  You always gobble it down, unless you are too tired to hold your head up...then we have to give up and call it quits.  At dinner time, when we put you in the bumbo you always get super excited because you know you'll be getting food soon.  It's pretty funny to watch!  We've been just feeding you solids at dinner time, but I think you're ready to start eating at every meal during the day.

Sleeping has always been a strength of yours.  You gave us a couple full nights of sleep when we first brought you home from the hospital.  Then you became more aware of your hunger.  You have always given us decent sleep stretches though.  We love you for that!  In the mornings, you have the best stretches.  Usually you are bundled in your swaddle and have to work for a while to get your hand out.  We usually wake up to you sucking on your hand or occasionally to you making "OOOOoooo" sounds.  Rarely do you actually cry or scream to wake us up.  Then I feed you and you sleep in, which gives me time to start the day and get your sisters ready.  Once we unswaddle you, you stretch your arms and legs over and over and over.  It's pretty cute watching you.

You have a super cute fascination with ceiling fans.  At first, you were always staring up at them.  Now, when we lay you underneath it, you feel the wind and get super excited.  You start kicking your feet and do this gasp for air over and over.  Occasionally, when we're outside, you'll feel the wind and do the same thing.  It's pretty awesome watching how worked up you get!

We are so grateful to have you in our family, Callie!  Thank you for your smiles and snuggles!

XOXO,
Mommy
